PARENT INFO
Rowing is a unique sport, and there are a few hints and tips to assist parents and caregivers of crew members through the season ahead.
As parents, you are a critical member of Takapuna Grammar School Rowing Club. Without you there would be no rowing and no crew members. Our crew members and club can not operate effectively without your support, and what we need are parents who provide support to help crews to row to the best of their ability and to give their best each and every day.
Rowing brings with it a great need for responsibility, participation and commitment. This is not just for crew members, by having a crew member with Takapuna Grammar School Rowing Club this typically means:
Becoming an unpaid chauffer - crew members need to get to training sessions which are often before 6am, and they have to be on time to not let their crew down.
Helping out - regattas, camps and fundraising cannot happen without helpers. Every event needs time and effort to organise, and to make it happen on the day. There is a role for everyone, and the more people involved the easier the load and the more we get done.
Being disappointed, elated, confused and over the moon all in one day - welcome to the wonderful world of rowing, it’s normal.
Asking millions of questions - this can be done repeatedly and you may still be confused about some of the terminology well into your second season. Make sure to check out some of our helpful guides on the terminology of rowing! Families who have been around rowing for some time will be more than happy to help answer your questions.
Fundraising - boats, equipment, out of town camps and regattas all add up to a significant shared fee. You’ll be so pleased that you made the investment - you will think it was cheap at double the price!
SEASON FEES
Our fee schedule is structured as an all inclusive model*, with the goal of covering the majority of operating costs for the rowing season.
Our club uses an all-inclusive fees model* to provide a full rowing season experience. While rowing isn’t cheap, fees offer great value by covering:
Multiple weekly on- and off-water training sessions
Lake Karapiro training camps (accommodation, food, coaching)
Weekend regatta camps (accommodation, food, coaching, supervision, race fees)
Regattas at Lake Pupuke and other regional venues (coaching, race fees)
Use and maintenance of boats, equipment, and safety gear
Specialist training for Coxswains
Additional costs aren’t covered by fees. As a not-for-profit, we rely on fundraising, sponsorship, and grants to keep fees reasonable and to purchase new boats and equipment.
Fees are to be paid on a monthly schedule spread equally over 5 months from date joining, to be paid at month end. All fees are per year.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:
Uniform costs are not included in the fees, and as such will be invoiced separately.
If a crew member is selected to compete at NISS or the Maadi Cup, there will be additional fees required to cover expenses associated with attending each of these regattas.
If a member of the Novice Squad becomes eligible to join the Junior or Senior Squad, the parent/guardian will be contacted to ensure that they are happy to accept the additional fee.
Second (+) crew member from the same family gets a $450 discount.
