Christmas Regatta: Captain’s Report

Throughout the few days of the Christmas Regatta, our club had some great results and fast races. The club as a whole performed to a high level achieving many A finals across both boys and girls. As a club we were able to work together to achieve these results despite the high temperatures, fast flowing waters, and unpredictable winds. It was an encouraging sight to see all the different squads work together as one unit, and stay composed for the largest school sporting event in the southern hemisphere.

Charlie: From the boys perspective it was amazing to see how we were able to adapt to the changing regatta environment to give us the best shots at putting out our best performances. An impressive result of an A final for the senior boys under 18 quad without the crew having ever rowed together before, and being able to fight hard despite the new setting against some of the best in the country. However, not only were there some great results from the senior boys, but the junior boys got some solid results in their crews despite having multiple races per day. We're looking forward to carrying this momentum into our next few regattas and continue to put our best foot forward.

Stella: From the girls perspective Christmas Regatta was a great event overall, with extremely hot conditions across the weekend, yet everyone performed really well and continued putting in hard work each day. Across all age groups, the girls showed strong commitment and determination, maintaining focus and effort throughout every race. The Secret Santa was for sure a highlight of the regatta, lifting everyone’s mood and bringing lots of fun and positivity to the team.

From both of us, it was really encouraging to hear feedback from many people outside the club, with a lot of comments praising the positive culture within the club. There was also strong recognition of the high standard of technique shown across all crews, along with the impressive performances delivered throughout the regatta. In particularly challenging conditions, crews showed great perseverance when racing through weed patches on the water, maintaining focus and determination despite the difficulties. This resilience and team culture were clear strengths across the weekend.

Overall, the Christmas Regatta was a very successful weekend, and it was encouraging to see the hard work paying off both on and off the water, with many finals coming in hand. We hope everyone enjoyed the regatta and continue to power forward into the rest of the season.
